Norton stones are considered tops for performance compared to all other waterstones on the market, both manmade or natural. Using water as the lubricant, waterstones develop a fast cutting slurry. Because of the softness of the material, waterstones do wear concave with use & require periodic re-flattening. We recommend Norton's flattening & prep stones for flattening & conditioning of waterstones. | | | Features: | |

good quality and functionJan 09, 2008 I have used a Norton carborundum oil stone for 30 years to sharpen tools and kitchen knives. This was the first water stone I have used and I have been very pleased with the results. It is a good size for large (8" chef's knives) knives and cuts fast and cleans up easily. I also bought a lapping stone to flatten the water stone (water stones wear faster than oil stones), but I hven't used it yet. The stone I bought was a combination with 1000x and something finer, but I don't see any combo stones on the Amazon site.
